COMMON MISTAKES (1)

COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE

There isn’t a book in this room. – correcto.
No hay ningún libro en esta habitación.

Es un error corriente decir:
There isn’t any book in this room. - incorrecto

Ese any convertiría a book en incontable y se entendería algo así como “no hay nada de libro en esta habitación”.


Utilizamos any para nombres contables en plural o para nombres incontables.

There aren’t any books in this room – correcto.
There isn’t any meat in the fridge. – correcto.


Recordad que no podemos decir un nombre contable en singular sin el artículo, aunque en español lo omitimos en determinadas ocasiones:

I don’t have a dog
No tengo perro.

I don’t have dog - incorrecto

I don’t have a car
No tengo coche
